What are its differentiators?
The Graves PX Shell Jacket stands out in a crowded market of running jackets thanks to its special stretchy fabric and functional design. The innovative Toray Primeflex™ fabric is the star of the show, offering a mechanical stretch that eliminates the need for heavier elastics like Spandex.
This makes the jacket lightweight and highly flexible, which is ideal for running. The material’s eco-friendly construction, partially made from corn-based resources, reflects Path Projects’ thoughtful approach to sustainability.
Additionally, the athletic fit and minimalist styling ensure this jacket feels just as at home in the day to day as it does on the road and trails.
What’s good
The Graves PX Shell excels in providing a comfortable and functional experience while running. One of its best features is the fabric’s combination of stretch, water-resistance, and breathability.
The jacket moves with you, making it feel unrestrictive during intense activity such as running. I particularly love how the underarm perforations keep air circulating, preventing the buildup of heat and sweat.
Its DWR coating effectively handles light rain, so you’re protected during sudden showers without feeling weighed down by the fabric and looking like a total soaked mess.
The athletic fit and elasticated cuffs ensures a snug yet comfortable feel, staying in place whether you’re running or commuting.
Another big win is the jacket’s versatility. The three thoughtfully placed pockets (1x chest, 2x hand pockets) are genuinely useful. The chest pocket, in particular, is perfect for keeping small items like a phone or keys accessible.
At just 7.7oz ounces, the Graves PX Shell is lightweight and packable too (I fold mine into its own hood), making it easy to stow when conditions improve – you can just put it in your running hydration pack or running belt if you wear one.
I also really like how good it looks, not just for running but when used as a casual everyday jacket, making it a solid investment if you need an affordable yet high quality jacket that’s versatile.
Thing worth knowing
- The water-resistance, while highly effective for light rain, doesn’t extend to torrential downpours if you get caught for an extended time – this is more of a water-resistant shell than a full rain jacket.
- For those in colder climates, the jacket might not provide adequate insulation without layering, as it’s primarily designed for temperatures between 20°F and 50°F. If you plan to layer it with an insulated midlayer, then you should probably size up.
My verdict
The Path Projects Graves PX Shell Jacket is a joy to run in and I find myself reaching for it on dog walks and the daycare run, whenever I need a lightweight jacket to protect from cold winds and threatening rain showers.
Its thoughtful design, and use of premium materials, makes it a reliable companion for running and everyday activities. While it may require layering for much colder conditions, its overall versatility and performance more than make up for this limitation – and come on it only costs $139, which. is fantastic for a premium water-resistant running jacket nowadays.
If you value comfort, breathability, and eco-conscious design, the Graves PX Shell is well worth considering.
