The Saucony Tempus 2 is marketed as a daily trainer with built-in stability, aimed at runners who need support but don’t want to sacrifice speed. So, it’s basically designed to help you maintain control on faster runs, this is for sure much needed as there’s a gap in the market when it comes to FAST stability running shoes – The choice tends to lead you down the path of either buying dedicated speed training shoes, versatile daily trainers, or dedicated stability shoes that somewhat lack in lightweight, snappiness.
But does the Tempus 2 live up to these promises? After putting these shoes through their paces, here’s what you need to know about them and whether they’re going to work out for you.

What’s Good
The Saucony Tempus 2 has a lot going for it, especially if you’re into faster-paced runs and need a stability shoe that doesn’t feel too bulky on the move. Right out of the box, the fit is true to size, with a comfortable medium width that hugs your foot nicely, particularly around the heel and midfoot. If you’ve been running in the Tempus already, you may find these a little tighter in the toe box than you’re used to.
They’re also easy to slip on thanks to the nice stretchy upper opening, and finger pull at the rear. Saucony’s PWRRUN PB foam midsole is the star here, offering a smooth, cushioned ride that stays responsive even when you pick up the pace.
One of the first things I noticed was how lightweight they feel for a stability running shoe. At 9.4oz (or 266g), these shoes make me want to up my cadence. They’re stable and actually pretty quick too. The Tempus 2 feels like it’s urging you to go faster, thanks to its supportive frame that guides your foot forward.
The asymmetrical medial support is another highlight for me because it’s very noticeable when you first put them on. It’s subtle enough that you don’t feel like the shoe is over-correcting your gait on the run, but it’s there when you need it, especially during longer runs where fatigue sets in.
This shoe is built for those who like some added stability without feeling weighed down – and I know there a a lot of you out there, because I’ve been asked countless times on my Youtube channel for a lightweight, fast stability shoe. Up until now I would have pointed them in the direction of the fantastic Saucony Hurricane 24 for its versatility in cushioning, responsiveness and stability but at 11.3oz, it’s not considered a lightweight shoe.
Enter the Tempus 2! By the way the Hurricane 24 is still an awesome running shoe that I recommend you also consider if you’re looking at buying these. Both models are some of the best shoes Saucony has ever made. Ask me in the comments which I prefer… I dare you! 🙂
The traction on the outsole also does a solid job when turn round tight corners or dodging walkers on the run.
What’s Not So Good
As great as the Tempus 2 is, it’s not a perfect shoe. The biggest downside for me is the lack of breathability. If you run in hot conditions or have feet that tend to overheat, you might find these shoes a little stifling, especially during summer months.
That said, they perform well in cooler weather, which makes them ideal for fall and winter running.
For long-time fans of the original Tempus, the updated version might feel a little different in terms of fit (they’re a bit narrower now) but in terms of relativity to other similar shoes out there, they are a medium width, it’s just a shame there’s no wide version available yet for those who need it.
The Verdict
So, is the Saucony Tempus 2 worth your $160? Yes, if you’re a runner who prioritizes speed and lightweight stability, and you run in cooler weather then these are certainly worth you trying out – you can pick them up at Saucony.com for $160.
The PWRRUN PB foam, supportive frame, and light construction make it a solid choice for faster paces, and its resilient, durability means you’ll get a lot of miles out of it.
However, if you loved the roominess of the original Tempus or need a shoe with more breathability, you might want to look elsewhere like the Hurricane 24, for example. You may also consider finding a deal and stocking up on the first-gen Tempus while you still can if you loved this shoe and the roomy fit that came with it.
