I’ve been using the Epic Water Filters OG Nalgene bottle for a while now—the Honnold Foundation edition, to be exact, with that vibrant Alexandra Rubio artwork wrapping the outside.
It’s the kind of bottle that gets compliments and actually makes a difference when you purchase one.
But beyond the good looks and feel-good mission, what really matters is how well it works—and in this case, that means clean, safe water anywhere, without needing to think twice about tap quality or buying bottled water again.
With two interchangeable filters, one for tap water (the blue one), one for outdoor use (the white one), a rock-solid Nalgene bottle build, and NSF-certified filtration, this bottle is all about convenience, sustainability, and doing good—without sacrificing performance. My kind of product!
Let’s break it down.

Performance review
This bottle does a lot more than just hold water.
First off, the filtration is excellent. The blue EveryTap filter handles everyday tap water with ease—removing chlorine, lead, PFAS, and over 70 other contaminants.
Water tastes noticeably cleaner and fresher, even from taps that normally have that odd tang which can only be described as ‘that tap water taste’.
The difference is especially noticeable if you’re sensitive to taste or live somewhere with questionable municipal water.
The real bonus is the white Everywhere filter, which you can swap in for outdoor adventures or travel abroad.
It uses Epic’s two-stage CoreXchange™ tech: a nano fiber outer layer for microplastics, bacteria, and viruses, and a carbon block core for chemicals and heavy metals.
It’s not the fastest sipping experience. This filter makes you work a little more for your hydration—but it’s reassuring to know you’re protected against all the nasty stuff, even in backcountry streams or questionable hotel faucets.
Speaking of sipping, that’s maybe the only mild trade-off. With the filter inserted, this isn’t a “chug” bottle; it’s more of a steady draw.
That’s totally fine for most activities, but something to keep in mind if you’re mid-workout and want fast gulps.
Build-wise, the OG Nalgene design is as bombproof as ever but it’s not insulated so it won’t keep your water cool in hot conditions, like a dual wall bottle will.
It’s very lightweight but tough, the cap doesn’t leak, and it fits easily in a backpack or side pocket.
The wide mouth makes it easy to clean and fill when you unscrew the lid, and everything but the filter is dishwasher-safe.
I also appreciate how simple the filter swap is—color-coded cartridges (blue for tap, white for everywhere) mean you always know which one’s in.
Then there’s the mission side of things: this bottle’s sale supports the Honnold Foundation, helping bring solar energy to underserved communities.
It’s a great example of design meeting function and purpose. And that limited edition art by Alexandra Rubio? It’s a beautiful touch that makes this bottle feel like a bit of gear with meaning.
My verdict
If you want a reliable, rugged, and thoughtfully designed filter water bottle, that looks good, supports environmental causes, and filters very well—the Epic Water Filters OG Nalgene is a great call.
I love how it transitions from city use to hiking without needing separate gear, and the Honnold Foundation edition adds that extra layer of meaning and personality.
This isn’t a tech-heavy bottle like the LARQ, and it doesn’t try to be. Instead, it nails the basics: clean water, anywhere, with fewer plastic bottles in landfills and more peace of mind for you.
It’s been a solid addition to my gear setup, especially knowing that every sip supports cleaner water and a cleaner planet.
