A greens powder I actually look forward to drinking — and one that fits into my real life, even when things get hectic.
AG1 Next Gen is a daily greens powder that I mix with cold water first thing in the morning.
It’s plant-based, vegan, and designed to support daily health with a blend of key nutrients, probiotics, and whole food-sourced ingredients.

For this review, I’ve been taking AG1 Next Gen consistently for 30 days. This isn’t my first time using AG1 (formerly known as Athletic Greens), but it’s my first experience with the updated Next Gen formula—which is now clinically-backed by four trials and includes five clinically studied probiotics.
It’s still the same great taste and convenience, but with deeper research behind it, upgraded probiotics and added vitamins & minerals, for an even more comprehensive formula.
Why I take AG1 Next Gen
I’m not someone who takes a load of supplements—I eat well, I train hard, and I always do my best to fuel properly.
But I also have a 2yr old son, a dog, a couple of businesses to run, and sometimes my days are just too chaotic to check every nutrition box. That’s where AG1 fits in really well.
I take it as a nutritional safety net—especially when I’m traveling, training hard, or burning the candle at both ends.
It helps me feel like I’ve already done something good for my body before I even pour my first coffee.
What’s in AG1 Next Gen?
AG1 Next Gen combines a multivitamin, five clinically studied probiotics, digestive enzymes, adaptogens, and superfoods into one scoop. The full list of ingredients can be found on the AG1 website.
It’s formulated to support gut health, energy levels, and to help fill common nutrient gaps—especially on days when your diet might not be as healthy as you would prefer.
Notably, AG1 Next Gen:
- contains no GMOs, artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners
- is vegan-friendly
- contains no preservatives (you’ll want to keep it in the fridge)
- is easy on the stomach first thing in the morning
- is now backed by four clinical trials
The added probiotics and digestive enzymes are something I’ve felt the benefit of, particularly when I’m on the road or eating out more often than I’d like.
Taste and mixability
Honestly, AG1 is the only nutritional supplement that has consistently remained at the top of my best greens powders roundup, based on taste and performance.
The flavor is subtly fruity, slightly earthy, and doesn’t leave that weird synthetic aftertaste you get with some other options I have tested over the years.
I mix it with about 8-10oz of cold water, give it a shake in the provided bottle, and I’m good to go. No clumps, no chalky mouthfeel.
How I feel after 30 days
This part is subjective, obviously—but after 30 days on AG1 Next Gen, I’ve noticed:
- Better digestion (less bloating, more regularity)
- More consistent energy, especially on long work days or after early runs
- No colds or low-energy slumps despite a busy travel schedule
It’s hard to isolate exactly what AG1 is doing because it supports the stuff you don’t always notice—like immune health or micronutrient levels—but I just feel more consistent and resilient when I’m taking it daily.
AG1 Next Gen is now clinically shown to close common nutrient gaps and support gut health—and that fits with how I feel when I’ve taken it regularly.
AG1 side effects?
I’ve had no side effects—and I’ve been using AG1 on and off for around 5 years. Like anything new, some people may experience a little digestive adjustment at first, but that tends to settle quickly.
If you’re on any medications or have concerns, it’s always worth checking with your doctor before starting any supplement.
How much does AG1 cost?
AG1 Next Gen costs $79/month on subscription (or $99 as a one-time purchase), and that includes 30 servings.
They also offer travel sachets which are super handy if you’re away from home.
The cost breaks down to about $2.6 per day, which is cheaper than a daily coffee out, and definitely better for me. I personally think it’s worth the investment for what you get in one scoop.
Is AG1 Next Gen worth it?
If you want a single product that can help you cover your nutritional bases—especially during busy or intense training weeks—AG1 Next Gen is a solid choice.
It’s not a magic fix, but it gives me confidence that I’m doing something good for my body every day, even when life gets chaotic.
And for those asking: Yes, I’ll continue to use it. AG1 Next Gen is one of only two supplements I take daily (the other is Fatty15), and I’ve never felt healthier.
Where to buy AG1 Next Gen

I’m really enjoying athletic greens, it’s by far my favorite all-natural morning supplement! I just wish it was a little less expensive.

I have been loving it too. I have been out for about 6 weeks and my next shipment is coming in a week or two. My 13-yr old loves it so it ended up being used up more quickly than anticipated. Anyway, I have been experiencing low-energy and after reading your review, I just realized that maybe it has been because I have been out of the Athletic Greens. The timing makes sense. It will be interesting to see how I feel once I get back on it. Thanks for the review.
Hi Halle! That is interesting! Please come back and let me know how you feel once you get back on it!! I’m currently testing another one called Organifi Green Juice which seems very similar. This one: https://organifi.myshopify.com/?rfsn=2822623.e5044f.14999
I’ll post a review in a few weeks to report my findings!
Happy green drinking! 🙂
Hi.. did you ever try this new one out? Or is athletic Greene the way to go?
Thanks!!
Which new one are you referring to?
Do you think I’d be able to mix this with unsweetened almond milk Instead of water?
Definitely, but honestly it tastes great just with water ?
You mentioned that the product is organic, but that is not consistent with the labeling
Hi Robert,
At the time of writing the review, it was consistent with labeling. I’m assuming Organic Greens can no longer claim to be fully orgaic because maybe not all their ingredients are anymore… I will update our article to reflect these changes.
