When a waterproof jacket promises both full waterproof protection and freedom of movement, I tend to be a little skeptical, as most usually nail one but not the other.
The GOREWEAR Concurve Gore-Tex Jacket manages to do both really well, and the LE4 limited-edition version adds even more visibility with bold reflective panels. The LE4 (Limited Edition 4) is the one you’ll see me using in this review.
It’s the same technical shell as the award-winning original, just with extra flair, and right now it’s 20% off ($200, down from $250), which makes it a seriously appealing buy for anyone looking for a high-end waterproof running jacket without paying Arc’teryx-level money.
After plenty of wet-weather miles, it’s clear this jacket is one of the best-balanced waterproof layers I’ve tested. It’s lightweight, as breathable as a waterproof jacket can be, has some smart features, and shaped to move with your stride rather than against it.

Performance review
The Concurve LE4 nails what many running jackets struggle with: it protects against relentless rain while staying light and flexible enough to run freely.
The GORE-TEX ePE membrane feels slightly softer and thinner than traditional Gore-Tex, which means it moves naturally and doesn’t have that stiff, crinkly feel.

The new membrane is also part of Gore’s shift toward a lower-carbon manufacturing process, which is worth noting for those of us who care about sustainability in our gear.
Out on the run, the jacket’s body-mapped cut is the star feature.
Rather than feeling boxy or restrictive, the panels move with you as you swing your arms or climb hills, so it really does feel like a “second skin”.

Even the hood is trimmed to ensure peripheral visibility when the hood it up.

The elastic-trimmed hood stays put even when the wind kicks up, and the magnetic hood buckle is one of those clever details you don’t realize you need until you have it.
It stops the hood from flapping around when not in use, without needing to stuff it down the back.

Breathability is good for a full waterproof. During steady runs and moderate efforts, it handles internal heat well and keeps sweat vapor moving outward.
In warmer downpours or tempo sessions, you’ll still build some heat (as with any true waterproof without cutout vents), but it never feels swampy inside.
For layering, there’s enough space for a thin mid-layer underneath, though it feels best over a light running tee as it has a slim fit design.
The LE4 reflective patterning is a big plus for early morning or after-dark runs.

The high-contrast reflective detailing isn’t just for looks, it genuinely pops under headlights and low light, boosting safety without making you look like a traffic cone.
I love how the large GORE-TEX logo looks on the left arm.

The zipped pockets are well placed for keeps hands warm, or storing keys or gels and don’t bounce too much, and the jacket’s low weight (just over 7 ounces) means it disappears once you start running. That’s super important for me!
It’s also the small details that make all the difference for me, like the elasticated cuffs, adjustable hood, adjustable waist, and easy to grab zipper.

It also stuffs down small enough to fit in a running vest or belt, so it’s ideal for long-distance training or races where weather can turn suddenly.
Compared with pricier jackets like the Arc’teryx Norvan Shell (also a fantastic waterproof running jacket, and reviewed here), the Concurve feels just as high-end in build quality and features
It also has a more forgiving fit, with a little stretch and less of that ultra-minimal “race-cut” feel.
It’s the kind of jacket you’ll wear not only on the trail but also for daily runs and even as a go-to layer for hiking or travel, durable enough to handle a pack yet light enough to keep in rotation year-round.
My verdict
The GOREWEAR Concurve Gore-Tex Jacket strikes a rare balance between technical performance and real-world comfort.
It’s light, packable, and fully waterproof, yet flexible enough to forget you’re wearing it once you settle into your running rhythm.
The recycled ePE membrane feels like a smart evolution, more sustainable without cutting corners on durability, and the LE4 version’s reflective treatment adds additional safety and style.
If you’ve been holding off on a premium waterproof running jacket because of the price, the 20% discount on the LE4 edition makes this the time to grab it.
It’s easily one of the best waterproof running jackets available right now for road or trail runners who value performance and comfort equally – It has certainly become my ‘go-to’.
