If you’ve ever struggled to find socks that actually fit wider feet or calves, you’ll understand why Wide Open caught my attention.

Most socks (running specific at least) are tight in all the wrong places, forcing you to either size up into shapeless territory or avoid crew lengths entirely.

But these? These are designed specifically for women like me, those with athletic calves, wider feet, or just tired of the too-tight, roll-down, dig-in experience.

I’ve been testing several pairs from Wide Open, but the Women’s Wildwood Cushioned Crew Socks in Teal have become my go-to favorites.

They’re warm but breathable, soft but supportive, and they don’t leave those harsh elastic marks around my calves at the end of the day. That alone is a win for me.

What makes these socks different

There’s a lot going on under the surface of these Wide Open socks, even if they feel simple and easy when you pull them on:

Wide Flex Stretch™

This is their secret sauce. The Wildwood crew socks stretch comfortably through the cuff, ankle, leg, and foot.

They don’t squeeze, they don’t sag, and they’re genuinely easy to pull on and off, even when I’m in a rush after a trail run or trying to wrestle our toddler, Sebastian into shoes.

Just-Right Cuff

I usually avoid tall socks because they either fall down or leave my legs looking like they lost a battle with a rubber band.

These stay up without leaving a mark. The cuff hits that sweet spot of feeling secure but never tight.

True Seamless™ Toe

I didn’t think much of this at first, but it really makes a difference in all-day comfort.

No rubbing, no bunching, just smooth, uninterrupted fit that disappears once it’s on.

Merino Wool Blend

The Wildwood socks are 55% Merino wool, and you can feel it. They breathe surprisingly well on warmer days but still keep my feet cozy in the early morning chill.

Whether I’m walking, hiking, or working from home, my feet stay dry, warm, and… honestly I’m kind of spoiled.

Who they’re for

These socks are made for women who’ve never had socks that truly fit.

If you have wider feet (they fit up to 4E), fuller calves, or just want a sock that feels like it was made for you, the Wildwood Crew is a solid place to start but you should check all the styles out because each one comes in a variety of colorways and patterns.

I’ve worn them on dog walks, errands around town, and even under boots during a chilly hike. They hold up to movement and miles without losing their shape or getting that damp, squishy feel you get from cheap cotton blends.

And let’s be honest, the Teal color in these ones is a fun option that somehow works with everything from leggings to trail pants.

Final thoughts

After weeks of testing, the Wildwood Crews have become a bit of a daily ritual (unless they’re in the wash!).

At $25, they’re definitely priced on the premium end of this category, but wow, they’re soft, structured, and thoughtfully made for women like me who usually have to settle for “close enough”, which in my opinion, is never enough!

And while I’ve been loving the Wildwood style, there’s a full lineup of crew, micro crew, quarter, and no-show options available, with plenty of fun patterns and solid basics too.

I’ll be keeping these in rotation as cooler months settle in, and I’ll share more thoughts as I keep putting them to the test.
