More protein, a new fun flavor, and a post-run feel-good boost, just in time for summer trail season.

If you’ve spent any time chasing vert this season, chances are you’ve been hunting for that golden-hour fuel that helps you bounce back as quickly as possible, the next day.

I’ve been testing the new Tailwind Recovery Mix (in the new Strawberry flavor) while training for the Speedgoat Mountain Races by UTMB, and I can say, it’s the most dialed-in version yet.

What’s changed?

Tailwind doubled down on the protein, literally. The updated formula now delivers 20g of complete plant-based protein per serving (up from 10g), and bumped the leucine content to 2g for even more muscle repair and synthesis.

The shake is now smoother too, thanks to a new combo of rice and fava bean protein that’s less chalky and has a more neutral flavor base.

That means the new Strawberry flavor actually tastes like strawberries, not an odd berry powder.

They’ve also ditched the fat, so it’s a faster, cleaner refuel: just carbs, electrolytes, and protein, exactly when you need them.

Why it works

After long runs or hill repeats, especially in the heat, I’ve found this Recovery Mix takes the edge off when taken in that first 30-minute window.

You mix it with water (no blender needed), and it goes down super easy, even if you’re not craving food yet.

It hits that perfect middle ground of being light enough to stomach, but rich enough to feel effective.

And it’s not just for run training, this mix has been great for cross-training, strength days, and even after super intense Peloton rides.
