Suunto’s newest flagship duo, the Race 2 running watch and Wing 2 open-ear headphones have arrived this week with a clear message: train with intention, perform with purpose.

Designed for endurance athletes, mountain runners, and everyday fitness enthusiasts who want data, comfort, and control, the new gear pair together seamlessly, offering real-time feedback, a safer way to listen while training outdoors, and very impressive battery life.

But even more than that, they reflect a growing shift at Suunto, one toward slimmer silhouettes, brighter displays, and more sophisticated tech in rugged bodies that still feel right at home in the mountains.

Race 2: Lighter, brighter, and built for the long haul

The Race 2 refines everything we liked about the original Suunto Race but trims the bulk and adds a lot more polish.

At 65g (for the titanium model) and only 12.5mm thick, it’s sleeker on the wrist for long runs or all-day wear. The 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display cranks brightness up to 2000 nits, making stats easy to read even under high sun on the trail.

Performance-wise, there’s real muscle here too. You get up to 55 hours in full GPS mode, a bump from 50 hours in the original, and dual-frequency GNSS for accurate tracking in canyoned terrain or tree cover.

Suunto’s best-ever optical heart rate sensor now supports 24/7 tracking and high HR alerts.

You also get offline maps, Climb Guidance, and Suunto’s smart ZoneSense and Coach tools, which nudge you toward smarter recovery and pacing over time.

There are 115+ sport modes, plus support for structured intervals and navigation features like weather alerts, sport-specific heatmaps, and sunrise/sunset timers.

And if you’re wearing it every day? The new case materials (stainless steel or Grade 5 titanium) feel solid without looking too tactical, and the silicone straps come in both single and dual-layer styles for a secure, comfy fit.

Wing 2: Hear the trail, feel the beat

The Suunto Wing 2 brings a welcome update to their original bone conduction headphones, the Wing (reviewed here), with better sound, smarter features, and closer integration with the Race 2.

New tuning boosts both bass and volume (now 5dB louder than the previous version), and dual mics with wind filtering make calls and voice assistant use more practical, even while running in headwinds up to 30km/h.

The open-ear design keeps you aware of your surroundings, and when paired with the Race 2, the headphones offer real-time audio feedback for pace, HR zone, and more. That’s a huge benefit on long sessions when you don’t want to check your watch every few minutes.

Battery life is solid at 12 hours, but the Wing 2 also ships with a mini power bank that extends listening time up to 36 hours total, great for ultras or weekend-long hikes.

Head gesture controls let you skip tracks or answer calls hands-free, and integrated LED safety lights pulse with your cadence or activate during turns and braking, like a visibility upgrade to help keep you safe running in the Fall and Winter months.

Another interesting touch is that the Wing 2 can monitor neck posture and prompt gentle corrections, designed to reduce strain during long sessions, especially for athletes prone to neck tension or poor running form.

I also have the Wing 2 in for testing, with my initial experience being that they’re awesome! Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter, to ensure you don’t miss my Wing 2 review, when it when it drops.

Race smart, train safer

Together, the Race 2 and Wing 2 represent Suunto’s most compelling athlete ecosystem to date.

Whether you’re navigating alpine terrain, listening to tempo cues mid-workout, or tracking recovery over a training block, this combo delivers the data, durability, and daily comfort serious runners and adventurers are looking for.
