There are two types of duffel bags: the ones that collapse in on themself, have a tendency to jam, and often disappear into your gear pile, and the one that plans to finally fix all that.

With the launch of the RUX Duffel Box, RUX just re-engineered the classic hauler into something smarter, sturdier.

Live on Kickstarter now through Nov. 4, the Duffel Box brings RUX’s signature wide-mouth, stand-up design (previously seen in their Gear Boxes) to a new travel-ready format with backpack carry, zipper-free closure, and modular expansion that adapts to your trip.

If you’ve used a RUX product before, you know they don’t just tweak, they rethink from the ground up. This is an invitation to pack better, haul cleaner, and move with less frustration.

Why duffels needed a redesign

Let’s be honest, most duffels are gear caves. You unzip them, the sides flop over, and you’re left digging blindly for a headlamp or second shoe.

Zippers can fail, the structure often collapses, and organization is almost always an afterthought.

The RUX Duffel Box solves those problems with:

  • A patent-pending segmented roll-top (no zippers!)
  • A structured, stand-up shape that keeps gear upright and accessible
  • Three carry modes – hand, shoulder, or backpack
  • Modular add-ons like organizer panels and internal end pockets
  • Built-in compression to switch from carry-on to max-capacity haul
  • 105D nylon with UHMWPE gridstop and PU coating for lightweight durability
  • 360-degree lash points for roof racks, tie-downs, and overland rigs

This is a mobile gear locker that works as hard as you do, built to go from truck bed to trailhead, floatplane to ski hut, van drawer to family weekend basecamp.

One duffel, three modes, zero zippers

What makes the Duffel Box stand out, literally, is the segmented roll-top closure.

Unlike zippers that can jam or split under pressure, the roll-top folds down tight, expands as needed, and opens wide like a cargo crate.

You get the access of a tote, the weather-resistance of a drybag, and the structure of a rigid box, all in a soft-shell build.

Two sizes are available:

  • Standard (55L): built-in grab handles, end pockets, and internal rails
  • Plus (75L): same features, plus detachable shoulder straps for backpack carry

Both compress down smaller when not fully loaded, and both ship flat for easy storage when not in use (though we doubt you’ll ever want to take it out of rotation).

Designed in Squamish, BC. Backed by a system.

Like everything RUX builds, the Duffel Box is made to integrate with the rest of the RUX ecosystem.

That means your existing RUX Cubes, Cooler Inserts, Panels, Pockets, and Utility Straps all work seamlessly inside the Duffel Box.

Think of the Duffel as the mobile arm of your basecamp setup. Use it solo for travel or combine it with your RUX 70L Gear Box for even more modular control.

And it’s backed by the same sustainability philosophy that drives all RUX gear: repair over replace, circular materials, and built-to-last design that prioritizes fewer, better products over disposability.
