I’ve worn Randolph Aviators for years, and I still get a kick out of their whole ethos: handcrafted eyewear built for people who expect better.
The Satin Gunmetal & Le Mans Blue DriveWorks Edition takes what I already love and pairs it with a cool automotive-inspired story.
This pair arrives with serious presence: that deep metallic frame, the subtle DriveWorks detailing, and lenses that shift from cool steel to vibrant blue depending on the light.
They feel special.
And with a custom “TRAIL & KALE” engraving on the temple (yes, I’m obsessed), they feel mine.

Design & build quality
Randolph still builds every pair in the U.S. using a famously detailed 200-step manufacturing process.

You can see it the moment you pick them up; precise joints, secure screws, zero flex or cheap “give” in the frame.

Although they look slender and refined, these are not fragile fashion sunglasses.
Randolph’s metal frames are electroplated with ultra-durable finishes and topped with corrosion-resistant coating. The result is eyewear that’s meant to stick with you for years.

This DriveWorks edition dials up the visual appeal:
- Satin Gunmetal which gives them that modern and understated look
- Matte tortoise temple tips for that warm contrast
- Gold 73 logo, a tasteful nod to Randolph’s heritage (Founded in 1973)
- Le Mans Blue lenses make them pop as a hero fashion piece

They walk the line between classic aviator styling and automotive sport influence really well.
Lens technology
The ZEISS LightPro® Le Mans Blue lenses are engineered to enhance visibility on bright roads without killing the character of what you see.

What I’ve noticed wearing them out and about:
- Light feels softer and more comfortable when I’m driving
- Whites become easier to distinguish against asphalt or urban surfaces
- Glare reduction without the heavy “polarized blackout” effect
- No distracting reflections thanks to backside AR coating
They toe the line between fashion tint and functional glare filtering really nicely, the result is smooth visuals.
Scratch resistance is built-in too, something I appreciate because sunglasses inevitably get knocked, no matter how hard you try to keep them pristine.
Fit & comfort

I went with the Small (52mm) frame because anything too large overwhelms my face.
Randolph’s multiple size options make a huge difference here; not everyone fits into “one-size-fits-all” aviators.

The bayonet temples are worth a shout out:
- Easy on/off without snagging hair or hats
- Even pressure distribution over hours of wear
- No soreness behind the ears
- The only downside is they don’t fold up flush, no biggy for me though as it’s about how they look on my face that matters most.
The Aviator stays fixed on the face with zero sliding, but also feel light and easygoing.
I will say, however, the nose pads, although comfortable, do leave a little dents either side of your nose when you take them off after a few hours of use, but that’s typical of most nose pads of this design.

For the most part though, these are the kind of sunglasses you forget you’re still wearing, until someone compliments them, hah!
Personalization: the TRAIL & KALE engraving
The engraving option is more than a gimmick to me, it transforms an already premium accessory into something uniquely mine.

Close-up, the lettering is crisp and beautifully finished. It’s such a small detail, but it gives a real sense of ownership and pride in wearing something long-lasting and intentionally chosen.
They’re a great gift idea too (file away for Father’s Day, birthdays, holidays).
What’s included

- Black embossed DriveWorks case
- Special edition cleaning cloth
- Premium packaging experience (Subtle, but definitely adds to the “this is a treat” feeling.)
My verdict
These DriveWorks Aviators prove why Randolph still sits in a league of its own in a market full of copy-paste aviator styles.
The satin gunmetal, the Le Mans Blue lenses, the bayonet temples, the DriveWorks details; it all comes together into a pair that’s both timeless and fresh.
If you want aviators that feel hand-made and considered, not mass-produced, this pair hits that beautifully.
And with the custom engraving, I’ve basically claimed them as my signature sunglasses from here on out.
