Pure Synergy Organic Superfood is one of those “greens powders” that doesn’t really behave like a typical greens powder.

It’s been around since the early 90s, it’s still the flagship formula, and the whole pitch is: treat this like a whole-food concentrate, not a multivitamin replacement.

What stands out immediately is the scope.

The ingredient list reads more like a herbal dispensary plus an algae/sea-veg blend: spirulina, chlorella, Klamath algae, kelp/wakame/kombu/dulse, sprouts and grass juices, berries, tonic herbs, and multiple mushroom mycelia, plus digestive enzymes.

Quick specs

  • Price: $64, available with ‘Prime overnight shipping’ at Amazon.com
  • Format / size: 12.5 oz (354 g) glass jar, 30 servings
  • Serving size: 1 Tbsp (12 g); they suggest starting at 1 tsp and ramping up, which I also recommend, whilst your gut gets used to the high nutrient intake
  • Dietary labels shown on pack/page: USDA Organic, Non-GMO, vegan, kosher, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, preservative-free
  • Testing transparency: they post a product Certificate of Analysis (COA)

What it’s made for

If you’re looking for a greens powder that’s basically “spinach + sweetener + a probiotic sprinkle”, this isn’t that.

The formula is built around three lanes:

  1. Algae + sea vegetables + grass juices/sprouts for dense plant compounds and minerals.
  2. Traditional tonic herbs/adaptogens (astragalus, eleuthero, schisandra, licorice, nettle, red clover, skullcap flower, etc.).
  3. Mushroom mycelia + enzymes as the “supporting cast”.

That “east meets west” angle is very much part of the brand story, and Pure Synergy positions the blend as a daily wellness foundation (energy, clarity, immune support, gut/detox support), rather than something you’ll feel right away, like caffeine.

As you can see from the ingredients list above, there is an extensive amount of nutrients packed into this greens powder blend.

Taste + mixability

The taste is somewhat savory/herbal rather than sweet, and I’ll be honest, it’s not as polished for the average consumer as say the AG1 greens powder.

It has a more natural grassy green taste, but that’s not to say the blend isn’t potentially better for you…

When it comes to mixability, it’s a fine powder and tends to blend best with a shaker bottle or smoothie. Water is doable, but most people who are sensitive to greens taste will definitely prefer it in a smoothie or juice (especially at the full 1 Tbsp serving).

How to take it

  • Week 1: 1 tsp in a smoothie (or plenty of water), see how your gut feels.
  • Weeks 2–3: build toward 1 Tbsp daily if you tolerate it.
  • Timing: whenever you’ll remember it consistently. It’s not a pre-workout, it’s a “daily baseline” thing.

What I notice most, and bare in mind this is always going to be subjective

Pure Synergy’s Organic Superfood Powder has been around since 1992, so as you can imagine it has quite the loyal, long-term user base.

That means it’s got to be doing something right, with benefits that people notice when taking it regularly for years. What I notice taking it is:

  • Steadier energy / “I feel more nourished” especially when I have a busy week and don’t eat as well a I should
  • Better sense of daily baseline wellness (the hard-to-measure stuff)
  • “More complete than grass-heavy greens” because of the herbs + mushrooms + sea veg variety

At the same time, it’s not the kind of product where everyone is going to get a dramatic before/after. There’s no denying the ingredients are of the highest quality but outcomes will depend on how good your diet is to begin with.

If your diet is already pretty solid, this is more likely to feel like maintenance than a “wow” moment. If your diet is inconsistent, or you’re in a training block where food quality slips, you may notice more.

Who it makes sense for (and who should skip)

This makes sense if you:

  • Want a whole-food style greens with a big herbal/mushroom backbone, not a “vitamin-y” drink.
  • Care about organic sourcing + published COAs.
  • Are fine paying more for a formula that’s trying to be broad rather than minimal.

I’d skip (or be cautious) if you:

  • Want a greens powder that tastes like fruit punch; this isn’t that and to be honest, and greens powder that does taste like that is likely pumped full of weird additives (avoid!).
  • Have a sensitive stomach: greens + enzymes + herbs can cause a short adjustment period, so starting at 1 teaspoon is smartm then work your way up to a tablespoon.
  • Are pregnant/breastfeeding, on meds, or managing thyroid/autoimmune issues: there are enough herbs and sea veggies here that it’s worth a clinician check first. (Not because it’s “bad,” just because it’s not simple.)

My verdict

Pure Synergy Organic Superfood Powder Review 5 - Trail and Kale | Trail Running & Adventure

Pure Synergy Organic Superfood is best viewed as a premium, old-school whole-food greens + herbs formula with unusually transparent lot testing.

The strongest case for it is the breadth and type of ingredients (algae/sea veg + tonic herbs + mushrooms) and the fact that they publish a COA right on the product page.

This is by far one of the best greens powder drinks out there, right now and I’d definitely recommend trying it out.
