I’ve tested a lot of men’s grooming brands over the years, but few feel as intentionally clean, functional, and well-rounded as Hygiene Lab.
Sure, there’s Caldera + Lab, but aside from them, Hygiene Lab is one of the cleanest men’s skincare brands I’ve come across.
Over the past 30 days, I’ve been using Hygiene Lab’s full product lineup: shampoo, conditioner, face wash, moisturizer, deodorant, hair gel, body lotion, and body wash.
And honestly? It’s been refreshing, to be using every product in my skincare regimen all from one consistent brand.
Whether you’re looking for better ingredients, more hydration, or just a daily grooming routine that doesn’t feel overcomplicated, this brand might just be your new go-to, it is mine.
Here’s my full breakdown of what Hygiene Lab is all about, what’s working, what’s not, and the products I’ll keep using long after this review.
About Hygiene Lab
Hygiene Lab launched in 2023 with a clear mission: to give men a complete grooming routine that’s non-toxic, EWG Verified, and actually enjoyable to use.
They’ve cut out parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances, opting instead for clean essential oils, eco-conscious packaging, and full ingredient transparency.
Every product is cruelty-free and made in the USA. And unlike a lot of brands in this category, the full lineup is made to work together, from hair and face to pits and feet.
They’re currently only sold DTC, via their official website, with bundles available to make the pricing more approachable if you want to try everything.
What’s in the Hygiene Lab lineup?
Here’s a quick rundown of what they offer and what I’ve been testing:
- Shampoo – Light scent, suds up incredibly well, leaves hair soft and fuller
- Conditioner – Super hydrating without weighing down finer hair
- Body Wash – Rich lather, clean rinse, no residue, lovely lavender sands scent
- Face Wash – Very gentle, good for sensitive skin, but I’d tweak the scent, personally
- Face Moisturizer – Lightweight hydration, though the scent could be dulled more on this one too
- Deodorant – Clean formula, nice scent, but needs reapplying later in the day
- Hair Gel – Really solid hold, low shine, zero crunch
- Body Lotion – Absorbs quickly, no greasy finish
They also sell a few bundles, like the Complete Daily Bundle (all 8 items + a toiletry bag) and duos/trios depending on what you’re after. See below for a picture of the wash bag, it’s large enough to fit all 8 products in.
What I loved after 30 days of using everything
1. The shampoo + conditioner combo is genuinely excellent
This pair stood out right away. The shampoo creates a satisfying lather without over-stripping, and the conditioner leaves my hair feeling hydrated but not flat.
This is especially good for medium hair like mine. I’ve also noticed I don’t need to wash my hair quite as often, which is a good sign the formulas are balanced.
2. Hair gel is a quiet winner
I wasn’t expecting much from this, but it’s become a daily staple.
You can shape it into something slick, or just use a little to tame things without looking like you’re wearing product. It also rinses out easily, which I appreciate.
3. The deodorant works, just not all day
It smells clean, glides on smooth, and doesn’t irritate my skin. That said, it’s not an antiperspirant (a positive in my book), so you’ll likely need to reapply midday, especially if you’re active or in hot weather.
I’d rather reapply something non-toxic than rely on aluminum-based sticks.
4. Body wash + body lotion are a great duo
The body wash lathers richly and leaves skin feeling moisturized rather than tight. I really like how it smells too – manly but fresh!
Follow it with the lotion, and you’ve got a great post-shower combo that doesn’t feel sticky or heavy.
5. Everything is EWG Verified
That means every product meets strict safety standards for ingredient toxicity, with low-hazard ratings across the board.
For anyone trying to avoid parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, and other questionable additives, it’s reassuring to know that what you’re putting on your skin has been independently evaluated.
It also puts Hygiene Lab in rare company, most brands don’t go through the effort of getting this level of certification.
A few things that could be improved
- Labeling could be clearer. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles all look similar, and the combination of a low contrast ratio of black writing on a dark gold background, and small print can make them hard to distinguish quickly.
- Some “unscented” products still have a scent. The face wash and moisturizer have a faint but not amazing aroma. A tweak here could improve the user experience.
- You’ll go through them quickly. The bottles aren’t massive, and if you’re using the full routine daily, you’ll likely need to re-up every 6-8 weeks.
- Higher price point. These aren’t drugstore prices but if clean ingredients matter to you, it’s arguably a worthwhile trade-off. Bundles help ease the cost.
My favorite Hygiene Lab products
After a full month of testing, these five products stood out the most, and I’ll keep them in my routine:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Hair Gel
- Body Wash
- Body Lotion
- Deodorant
They strike a rare balance between performance, enjoyment to use, and ingredient integrity.
Is Hygiene Lab worth it?
If you’re ready to level up your grooming routine with clean ingredients and solid performance, Hygiene Lab is a strong place to start.
The branding feels modern and grown-up, the formulas are thoughtfully made, and there’s something satisfying about building your routine around a single, unified system.
It’s not the cheapest option, and a couple scent tweaks wouldn’t hurt but as far as clean men’s hygiene products go, this one gets a solid thumbs-up from me.
You can grab the full Hygiene Lab lineup at hygienelab.com (that’s the only place they’re sold right now), and check out their bundle options if you’re all in.
