Performance review
One of the biggest selling points of the Trail 300 DC is how compact and easy it is to carry.
At just under 6 pounds, it’s significantly lighter than most comparable 300W stations, which makes a real difference if you’re hiking into camp or want to stash it in a daypack.
The woven handle feels sturdy, and the overall build quality is reassuring, EcoFlow designed it to handle bumps, drops, and general outdoor abuse.
I have reviewed a number products from the EcoFlow brand, and every one of them has turned out to be of high quality manufacturing with excellent performance in the field.
The 288Wh capacity is more than enough to get you through a full day of typical outdoor use.
That translates to charging your phone multiple times, keeping a couple of cameras or drones topped up, running LED lights, or powering a Bluetooth speaker at the campsite.
EcoFlow speculates that it’s the equivalent of carrying nine power banks in one, and in real use, it does feel like an all-day solution rather than something you’re constantly worried about draining.
The DC-only design is where the Trail 300 DC sets itself apart, because it skips the inefficiency of converting power to AC, it stretches its battery life further.
For practical use, this means your devices, especially tablets, cameras, and smaller electronics, tend to run longer on the same watt-hour capacity compared to mixed-output stations.
The dual 140W USB-C ports are particularly useful if you’re carrying a laptop, drone, or high-powered cameras that demand faster charging.
Charging the station itself is very flexible.
You can use USB-C, a car outlet, or solar panels (up to 110W input). With two USB-C ports capable of input and output, recharging can be quick if you’ve got the right setup.
Using two 140W GaN adapters simultaneously gives you a super fast 280W charging.
I only have one of these adapters but without it, I was only getting 20W charging as standard, so 140W is a huge upgrade in charging speed.
For camping and overlanding, this flexibility is a big plus, plug it into the car while driving, or top it off with solar during the day.
Durability is another strength. The shell feels solid and ready for outdoor use, and EcoFlow includes protections against over-voltage, short circuits, over-heating, and more.
The optional waterproof case (sold separately) will be appealing to anyone who camps near water or heads out kayaking or fishing. While it’s not fully waterproof on its own (IP30), the extra case should provide peace of mind in wet conditions.
My verdict
At $159, the EcoFlow Trail 300 DC is very reasonably priced, thoughtfully designed power station that balances portability with enough capacity to make it genuinely useful for outdoor adventures.
What it is:
- A lightweight, compact, and rugged option for campers, hikers, and road-trippers who need to keep essential electronics powered.
- Efficient for DC-powered gear, with fast-charge USB-C support that makes it ideal for modern devices.
- A solid companion for day-to-weekend trips where keeping lights, phones, and small appliances running is the priority.
What it isn’t:
- A replacement for larger AC-compatible power stations if you plan on running high-wattage appliances like coffee makers or laptops that don’t support USB-C PD.
- Fully waterproof without the extra case, so it’s best considered water-resistant unless paired with that accessory.
At its current price of $159 at ecoflow.com, the Trail 300 DC offers strong value if your outdoor lifestyle revolves around light camping, filming, hiking, or weekend adventures where keeping essential electronics powered is the main goal.
For anyone who wants portable, efficient power without the weight penalty, this little unit is easy to recommend, and I’m loving having mine around with me when I need it most.
