The Gregory Alpaca Wheeled Duffel 100L has recently become my go-to travel bag for longer international trips, and after hauling it across the UK, Switzerland, and up into the French Alps, I can confidently say it’s one of the most dependable wheeled duffels I’ve ever used.
With weatherproof materials, oversized wheels, and a roomy main compartment that plays nicely with packing cubes, it strikes a great balance between rugged outdoor gear and travel convenience.
If you’re looking for a large-capacity travel bag that can survive baggage handlers, rough terrain, and unpredictable weather, this one’s worth a closer look.

Performance review
What stood out immediately is the sheer storage space, when you compare it to a traditional suitcase.
With packing cubes, I am able to use the full 100L effectively without feeling like I’m was just throwing stuff into a giant pit, with no way to grab what I actually need, quickly, without messing all my other packing up.
The interior compression straps do a great job of holding gear in place, and the structure of the polycarbonate base adds a nice rigidity so it doesn’t sag or flop around when it’s not completely full.
The cinch straps on the outside are also super helpful.
They not only compress the load but also help the bag keep a tighter profile when it’s in transit, whether that’s being thrown into the hold on a flight or wedged into a train luggage rack.
The Alpaca Wheeled Duffel 100L held up beautifully through all of that, I’ve been through multiple flights, train journeys, baggage claims, and road trips though Switzerland and France with this bag, and it still looks great.
The durability is impressive; very little scuffing (only on the hard plastic areas that contact the ground when standing it up), no tears, no zipper issues.
The rubbery plastic zipper handles are easy to grab, and make zipping (and un-zipping) the bag up super easy.
One of the best features has to be the oversized wheels.
They glide over uneven sidewalks, cobblestones, and even do surprisingly well on a few steps if you have to pull it up.
The combination of the solid tires and lightweight frame makes it feel much easier to maneuver than I expected for such a large bag.
The expandable dirty gear pocket on the top of the bag, is clever and has come in handy for muddy trail shoes after our trail race in Wales, a few weeks ago, and also separating laundry when we didn’t have time to repack properly.
It’s also a decent place to stash items you’ll need quick access to (like snacks or layers) during travel. We stored some emergency Hotwheels cars and plastic dinosaurs in there for our son, Seb, and that turned out to be a great little toddlert hack.
The lockable zips feel solid and secure, nothing flimsy or likely to break under pressure, which is reassuring when you’re checking a bag with all your gear in it.
And lastly, I have to give the handles a shout out.
I love how there is a handle of every side of the bag, making it easy to pick up in any orientation, and the main handles on the top and the extendable handle are rubberised and feel very comfortable to hold.
My verdict
The Gregory Alpaca Wheeled Duffel 100L is exactly the kind of travel companion you want when you’re packing big and heading somewhere rugged.
It’s not flashy, but I personally love the adventure vibe it gives you, and it’s built for real-world use, solid, secure, and smartly designed.
Whether you’re flying across continents, road-tripping, or just need something that can carry a ton of gear and keep rolling smoothly, this duffel gets the job done.
So, if you need a large-capacity duffel that rolls like a champ, handles rough treatment without flinching, and stays organized inside, the Alpaca Wheeled Duffel is a solid investment – and it has now earned itself a spot, as my core travel bag.
