If you train regularly, you’re probably familiar with that deep, lingering soreness that hangs around long after a hard session.

I’ve been testing it during that post-run stiffness window and right after strength training sessions, and it has slotted into my recovery routine more naturally than I expected.

It has also been great for my achy wrist that I get from RSI at work, and doing push ups, and right now it’s $300 on their website (normally $599) with a 60-day ‘feel the difference or full refund’ guarantee, which is the lowest price all year.

For me, delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) tends to show up in my quads and calves, after tough running workouts and in more places after strength sessions on my Tonal 2; my right wrist also tends to ache during and after pushups.

That’s where the PRUNGO FluxGo has slotted into my routine: a genuinely portable red- and infrared-light device designed to target the exact spots that need extra help recovering.

This isn’t a big therapy panel or a gimmicky heat pad. FluxGo is built around two focused wavelengths: 660nm red LED for surface-level recovery and 850nm polarized infrared laser for deeper, joint-level relief.

How red light therapy works (and why these wavelengths matter)

Red light therapy helps your body recover by boosting how efficiently your cells produce energy.

When 660nm red light and 850nm near-infrared light hit your tissues, they interact with the mitochondria; the part of the cell responsible for energy production.

This gives the cells a small “energy boost,” which supports faster repair, reduced inflammation, and better circulation. For a deep dive on the science behind the device, head over here.

The FluxGo is the world’s first wearable red light therapy device to incorporate a polarized laser. This polarization is the key to maximizing the efficiency of the deep-penetrating laser, and it’s a unique selling point for PRUNGO.

660nm deep red LED light

This wavelength works on the surface layers of your tissue. It helps with:

  • mild inflammation
  • improving blood flow
  • easing surface-level soreness

It warms the area and preps it for deeper recovery.

850nm infrared laser light

This is the wavelength that reaches deeper; about 3–5 cm into muscles, tendons, and joint tissue.

It’s what makes FluxGo effective for stubborn, internal aches where heat pads and massage guns can’t reach.

Why using both helps

When these two wavelengths work together, like on the FluxGo, you get surface-level support and deeper relief at the same time.

That’s why people notice less stiffness, better recovery after workouts, and fewer lingering aches when they use it consistently.

How to use it

Setting up the PRUNGO FluxGo is straightforward and quick, ideal for post-workout recovery when you need to start recovery, fast.

Connect the modules using the flexible straps to form a customizable wrap, snap them together in a chain for larger areas like the back or quads, or use a single module for targeted spots like wrists or ankles.

To get started, make these two simple adjustments for optimal results:

  1. Select your mode based on needs. Hold the power button to turn on (you’ll hear a beep), then cycle through modes with the “M” button: Mild (8 minutes) for gentle relief and pre-activity warm-ups, Mid (15 minutes) for post-workout soreness, or Strong (20 minutes) for deeper issues. Sessions auto-time and shut off, so no monitoring is needed. Start with Mild for sensitive areas like wrists to avoid overstimulation.
  2. Secure for direct skin contact. Position the modules on clean, dry skin over the target area, and adjust the Velcro straps for a snug fit—tighter than you might expect on curved spots like knees or quads to prevent slipping, if you move around. This ensures maximum light penetration without clothing interference.

From there, it’s press-and-go: No apps, Bluetooth, or complex settings required.

Use 1-2 sessions daily per area, and store modules in the case for easy recharging. This hands-free design keeps things simple, letting you focus on recovery.

Performance review

Where FluxGo really shines is in how focused the red light therapy feels.

A large panel might flood a room with light, but it doesn’t contour to your quads or wrap around your wrist the same way.

This modular design puts the LEDs and lasers right against the tissue that needs attention.

On my quads, I feel the warmth within about a minute.

The 850nm polarized laser is what gives it more punch than those basic red-light gadgets that sit on a shelf.

After intense running sessions, the Relaxation mode noticeably reduces that tight, drum-skin feeling in my legs.

It doesn’t eliminate soreness altogether, that’s not realistic, but it shortens how long it hangs around and makes me feel more “ready to move” the next day.

I recommend also drinking a clean protein drink post workout also, if you need it.

The same goes for strength workouts.

After heavy leg days on the Tonal 2, when DOMS would normally peak the following morning, sessions with FluxGo seems to soften that edge.

The Strong mode delivers slightly higher irradiance, and while it’s not a miracle recovery tool, using it consistently, say three to five times a week, makes the soreness feel more manageable and less stubborn.

There’s a noticeable effect that I wasn’t expecting to fee from red light therapy.

For my wrist, the effect is more subtle because it’s a long term ache that I have had. Wrist anatomy is also bony and compact, making it a great test for how well the deeper 850nm wavelength actually penetrates.

After about a week of consistent sessions, the low-level ache I get from pushups did calm down somewhat.

It feels more like the pain backs off rather than being “masked,” which lines up with what PRUNGO claims about supporting recovery rather than numbing the area.

Battery life is fine for targeted sessions, though frequent usage will require recharging every couple of days.

The charging case is handy and genuinely portable, but it’s not built like a tank, so I wouldn’t toss it around carelessly in a gym bag.

I like the way you can also charge the units individually with the other included cable, should you wish to.

Build quality of the modules themselves is very good.

They are lightweight, minimal, and easy to keep clean but the straps can slip slightly if you’re still sweaty from a workout.

Tightening them or repositioning the modules usually fixes this. I feel this is the area that could be refine if PRUNGO updates the FluxGo.

The biggest thing to understand is that this is spot therapy.

It’s not going to replace big recovery routines or full-body modalities. But if you’re dealing with specific muscle groups or joints, like quads, calves, hamstrings, wrists, or knees, for example, then FluxGo’s concentrated setup makes it easy to give those areas the focused attention they need.

For what I’ve been using it for; running recovery, strength-training soreness, and a finicky wrist, it has worked very well so far, and I know the more often I use it, it will only improve my recovery process.

It’s the kind of product you get more from the more you use it.

My verdict

PRUNGO FluxGo portable red light therapy device review 15 - Trail and Kale | Trail Running & Adventure

FluxGo sits in an interesting place in the recovery world.

It’s more advanced than those generic red-light devices you see all over Amazon, thanks to its polarized 850nm laser and focused 660nm LEDs, but more portable and user-friendly than the bulky panels you need a dedicated room for.

If you’re someone who trains often and deals with repeat soreness in specific areas, the value makes sense, especially at the current Black Friday price.

The modular design is intuitive, the preset modes are easy to work with, and the relief feels genuine rather than superficial.

For me, it’s become part of my recovery routine because it’s effective, simple to use, portable, and it fits my life in a way that encourages consistent use, which is ultimately what recovery tools need in order to make a difference.
